Polished Concrete

One of the most innovative and economical flooring options available today, polished concrete is one of the fastest growing phenomena in the flooring industry.  Due to its increased strength, dust elimination and many other benefits, polished concrete has long been enjoyed in warehouse and industrial facilities and only recently has the market shifted to other areas. From warehouse facilities to showrooms to industrial plants, retail and even for decorative residential projects, polished concrete is being used everywhere.

Polished concrete is a motorized grind and polish process that utilizes industrial diamonds and impregnating hardeners and sealers to level, densify and most importantly seal the floor from within the interior of the concrete.  In addition to its cost efficiency and many benefits, polished concrete floors are also in compliance with LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) practices.

Benefits of Polished Concrete

  • Beauty. Often mistaken for marble, polished concrete is second to none in durability and appearance. Whether an industrial manufacturing plant, office building, or retail, its smooth sleek appearance makes polished concrete a viable option for many.

  • Longest Lasting Floor When it comes to durability and life of a floor, there are simply no comparisons to that of a polished concrete floor. Where as with carpet, VCT, linoleum and other flooring options, replacement will be required regardless at some time. With polished concrete, as long as the slab of concrete exists, the polished concrete will remain whether that be 10 years or 100 years. With proper maintenance and the occasional repolish, polished concrete floors provide savings. Long term and short.

  • Dust Elimination In ordinary unpolished concrete, tiny particles of dust are pushed to the surface through an upward force referred to as concrete dusting. This dusting forces epoxies off the surface which can make maintenance costly.

  • Increased Strength There are several ways for concrete floors to break as they age: rain damage, delamination, surface stress and many more possibilities. Polished Concrete prevents this by first grinding or removing the top part of the surface of the old concrete floor (including any patchy/partial/whole coatings) and actually hardens the old exposed surface beneath. This results in the old concrete being strengthened and impact and abrasion resistance is increased.

  • Cost Effective The reduced costs associated with saved energy, reduced tire wear, less maintenance and most importantly the long lasting durability shows that polished concrete is a sensible, beautiful flooring system.

  • Many More Benefits….

    • no stripping or waxing of floors is needed

    • polished concrete floors can be put into service immediately after completion

    • Elimination of tire marks from lifts, trucks and other vehicles; (no resins to burn on the surface, therefore no mark)

    • High Levels of co-efficient friction – Kept clean and clear of debris, polished concrete floors meet and often exceed OSHA and ADA standards for slip resistance.

    • Increased ambient lighting – Naturally enhance the beauty of your floor and reduce the cost of lighting!
